Conclave 2017 Recap

Section NE-2A had it’s 2017 Conclave at Moses Scout Reservation on June 9-11. Pocumtuc Lodge served as the Service Lodge for the weekend.  The theme for the weekend was Navigate Our Future,  the theme was chosen in order to tie into the theme of Project LEAP.

Friday night’s activities included dancing, gaga ball, frisbee as well as a cracker barrel consisting of cotton candy, ice cream, and candied apples.  At this time there was an opportunity to meet the special guests in attendance, 2016 Southern Region Chief Harrison Fry, 2015 Western Region Chief Nathan Lee, and 2015 Venturing President Edward Abraham.

Saturday Morning consisted of 3 training slots with a total of 14 different cells being taught on varying topics from communications to ceremonies.  In the Afternoon the camp had many different activities such as rifle and shotgun shooting, a 100-foot slip and slide, Pull The Thing and gaga.

Saturday Evening’s show was hosted by Nathan Lee and Harrison Fry and consisted of a game show where the contestants were asked questions about our special guests and the history of the Order of The Arrow, and a Lip Sync battle Between Chief John Zanin and Vice-Chief Andrew Work, Where John Zanin and his assistant Nick Aubrey won with their rendition of Love Story by Taylor Swift.

Sunday Morning had the Annual Business Meeting, Where Andrew Work of Tschitani Lodge was elected Section Cheif, Brian Shea of Pocumtuc Lodge was Elected Section Vice-Chief, and Chris Cheslog of Owaneco Lodge was Elected Section Secretary.

Conclave 2015 Recap

Section NE-2A hosted its centennial conclave on June 19 through the 21st at the beautiful camp June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation, where Tschitani Lodge served as the service lodge for the weekend. The theme was quite long in name, but was used to show progression through the weekend: “From the Island to the Summit, the Legacy Lives On”. The theme was selected based upon the location of the founding of the Order of the Arrow, Treasure Island, and the progression since its founding to the most recent of notable events, our rededication at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve. In the planning of the theme, the concept of acknowledging the past as well as showing the impact it would have as we move forward into our second century of service.

After lodges settled into their campsites, the lodges came together at the waterfront for a luau with assorted activities, cracker-barrel with themed food, the opportunity to meet out-of-section guests who were also in attendance. These special guests included the 2015 National Chief Alex Call, 2015 Northeast Region Chief Matt Bell, and 2015-2016 Section NE-6A Chief Zach Sager.

Saturday morning was filled with the Conclave University training program. The program was broken down into 4 tracks, with a total of 28 sessions offered, based upon what the participants’ involvement in their chapter and or lodge. A variety of training sessions were offered within each track for Arrowmen to customize their experience and make it the most beneficial. This year marked the third year of the Conclave University program as well as the introduction of the Master’s degree, the highest recognition available for participation in the training program.

Conclave 2015 Design Contest

Do you have skills in drawing or graphic design? The section is in need of a conclave logo and you could be the one who creates it! The logo needs to encompass our Conclave theme: “From the Island to the Summit, the Legacy lives on” All submissions are due prior to March 1. The winner will be able to attend conclave for free! Conclave In Review

This year’s Section Conclave, which was serviced by Nacha Nimat Lodge, was held at Camp Nooteeming in Salt Point, New York. Over the weekend, scouts from all 6 lodges plus many guest participated in various training classes ranging from event planning to patch trading.  By participating in Conclave University classes, members had the opportunity to earn an Associates or Bachelor’s Degree.  Next year, the Section will be offering a Master’s degree to those scouts who show true commitment to the Section training.  Classes were taught by Section officers, volunteers, and guests.  Our Section was honored to have both the National Chief, Nick Dannemiller, and the National Vice Chief, Taylor Bobrow attend the Conclave, and contribute by teaching the “Centuries of Service” course.

The Conclave wasn’t just training classes.  The weekend was full of exciting events and competitions including human foosball, ultimate frisbee, tug of war, dodge ball, and many more.  Read More
